What Are Corns?

Corns are areas of thick skin that are caused by repeated pressure or friction, typically on the toes. The base of the corn can be seen on the surface of the skin, but the top of the corn points inwards, causing pain and discomfort. Corns can be either hard or soft. Hard corns have a dense core, which can put pressure on the nerves in the foot and cause severe pain. Soft corns tend to occur between the toes, and are often pliable and white in color due to continuous exposure to sweat. If you have corns that are causing you discomfort or pain, please consult with a podiatrist for treatment options.

Signs of a Fungal Nail Infection

Fungal nail infections can occur in both the toenails and fingernails. These fungi tend to live in warm and moist environments, and they like to feed on the keratin that makes up the toenails. Fungal nail infections can be commonly spread in environments such as locker rooms and public pool areas, but they can also spread from poor foot hygiene. Nails that have been affected typically appear as yellow or brown, and they can become thicker. If the infection worsens, the affected nail could begin to crumble and accumulate debris that smells foul. Toenail fungal infections are difficult to completely heal on their own, so it is important to seek medical attention if you see any signs or symptoms. A podiatrist will provide a proper diagnosis and determine a treatment plan that is best for you.

For more information about treatment, contact Dr. Nooshin Zolfaghari of VIP Foot & Ankle Center. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Toenail Fungus Treatment

Antifungals & Deterrence

Oral antifungal medicine has been shown to be effective in many cases. It is important to consult with a podiatrist to determine the proper regiment for you, or potentially explore other options.

Applying foot powder on the feet and shoes helps keep the feet free of moisture and sweat.

Sandals or open toed shoes – Wearing these will allow air movement and help keep feet dry. They also expose your feet to light, which fungus cannot tolerate. Socks with moisture wicking material also help as well.

Gout Pain Can Be Managed

Gout is a painful, inflammatory form of arthritis. Those affected will typically feel an intense stiffness in the joints of their feet, particularly in the big toe. Schedule a visit to learn about how gout can be managed and treated.

Many people understand the importance of practicing everyday foot care, and are aware that performing daily foot care routines may prevent potential foot conditions from developing. Foot care techniques are simple to implement. They can include washing the feet in warm water, followed by drying them thoroughly and applying a good moisturizer. It is beneficial to check the bottom of the feet and in between the toes for bruises or cuts, in addition to frequently trimming the toenails. The toenails should be trimmed straight across and not too short. The feet will feel better when shoes and socks fit properly, and this may help prevent ingrown toenails and bunions from developing. If you would like additional information about everyday foot care, it is recommended that a podiatrist is consulted.

Everyday foot care is very important to prevent infection and other foot ailments. If you need your feet checked, contact Dr. Nooshin Zolfaghari from VIP Foot & Ankle Center. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Everyday Foot Care

Often, people take care of their bodies, face and hair more so than they do for their feet. But the feet are a very important aspect of our bodies, and one that we should pay more attention to. Without our feet, we would not be able to perform most daily tasks.

It is best to check your feet regularly to make sure there are no new bruises or cuts that you may not have noticed before. For dry feet, moisturizer can easily be a remedy and can be applied as often as necessary to the affected areas. Wearing shoes that fit well can also help you maintain good foot health, as well as making it easier to walk and do daily activities without the stress or pain of ill-fitting shoes, high heels, or even flip flops. Wearing clean socks with closed shoes is important to ensure that sweat and bacteria do not accumulate within the shoe. Clean socks help to prevent Athlete’s foot, fungi problems, bad odors, and can absorb sweat.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office located in Pembroke Pines, FL . We offer the newest diagnostic and treatment technologies for all your foot and ankle needs.

Treatments for Extra Sweaty Feet

Plantar hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessively sweaty feet. Fortunately, there are multiple treatments available for it. Botox injections into the foot can reduce excessive sweat production by blocking a chemical in the body that stimulates sweat glands. Results typically last for 4-6 months. Application of an antiperspirant to the feet is a less invasive way to reduce sweating. The antiperspirant decreases the flow of sweat from the sweat ducts along the surface of the skin by forming a shallow plug in the ducts. Other treatment options include iontophoresis, wearing moisture-absorbing shoe inserts, and applying powders to the feet. If you are afflicted with sweaty feet it is recommended that you consult with a podiatrist to learn more about treatment options and determine one that is correct for you.

If you are suffering from hyperhidrosis contact Dr. Nooshin Zolfaghari of VIP Foot & Ankle Center. Our doctor can provide the care you need to attend to all of your foot and ankle needs.

Hyperhidrosis of the Feet

Hyperhidrosis is a rare disorder that can cause people to have excessive sweating of their feet. This can usually occur all on its own without rigorous activity involved. People who suffer from hyperhidrosis may also experience sweaty palms.

Although it is said that sweating is a healthy process meant to cool down the body temperature and to maintain a proper internal temperature, hyperhidrosis may prove to be a huge hindrance on a person’s everyday life.

Plantar hyperhidrosis is considered to be the main form of hyperhidrosis. Secondary hyperhidrosis can refer to sweating that occurs in areas other than the feet or hands and armpits. Often this may be a sign of it being related to another medical condition such as menopause, hyperthyroidism and even Parkinson’s disease.

In order to alleviate this condition, it is important to see your doctor so that they may prescribe the necessary medications so that you can begin to live a normal life again. If this is left untreated, it is said that it will persist throughout an individual’s life.

A last resort approach would be surgery, but it is best to speak with your doctor to find out what may be the best treatment for you.
